Its International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day and you’re not alone #survivors #youarenotalone

*WARNING: This post mentions suicide and may be triggering.

Today is International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day and I was gifted the opportunity to write an article for my friends at The Trevor Project about what survivors actually need. It's the article I wish someone had handed to me after I lost my father, my cousin, and one of my closest childhood friends to suicide.

As a multiple suicide loss survivor and a Trevor Project Lifeline Counselor, this piece comes from both sides of the experience — the side that’s still learning how to carry my own losses, and the side that sits with LGBTQ+ young people in their darkest moments reminding them that their pain is real and that they matter.

The reality is, most people want to support survivors but just don’t know how.

So, if you or someone you love is grieving a suicide loss, here's a place to start.

And if you or someone you know is struggling with suicide grief and need immediate help, please call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386 for support.
